Fully functional, no limitations and no ads. I got the extras package because I respect this rare type of developer.

Wow. I'm impressed. I was looking for an alternative to Due while waiting for the iOS 7 refresh (v2).
Stumbled on Alarmed. While I'm not crazy about the icon and basic iOS 7 template UI, the functionality is excellent.
I went ahead and got the IAP to support the dev. Great work!

@BondmanTL:
My wife had used this app religiously for countless reminders. But since the recent iOS 7 refresh, it became a bit unreliable. Scheduled reminders would not trigger at the correct time, if at all. And repeated alarms would not repeat.

These issues happened sporadically, but frustrated her enough to switch to Due.

Not sure if the problems stem from an iOS 7 bug or the app itself.

But, minor annoyances aside, Alarmed is a quality app.

Wow. The missed reminders would not be considered "minor" in my book! I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't experienced that issue. But I will be more cognizant of the possibility going forward.
Hmm...and I just bought the IAP too. I do love Due. It is likely that I'll switch back after v2 is released....at least to take it for a test spin.

If you're looking for an alarm, timer, counter, etc app this one is solid.

If there's any doubt look at the app store's review count/rating. Over all versions it has an average perfect 5 stars from 15,000 reviews! The latest version has still a perfect 5 stars with 4,500 reviews! There's not many apps out there that manage to do that.

What's really baffling to me, though, is how can an app have 15,000 five star reviews, yet I've never heard of it or seen it featured? Be it in the App Store itself, website reviews or recommendations… just odd.

Now here's my opinion of the app itself. The premise? Not unique— there's nearly as many timer/reminder/alarm apps as there are "to do" apps. The functionality of this one is there… it does what it's supposed to do— and yes, there are insane amounts of sounds in this thing, wow. Overall, though (and I hate to be negative about anything) I don't really see anything incredible or extremely unique in interface or functionality that would make it stand out as "noteworthy" or "must have", though, in fairness— my need or use of timers and alarms is not a regular thing. Maybe that's why I fail to see the potential in this… I will say this: There is nothing that would NOT make me want to use this app if I had such the need. It is solid, and as I said— it does the job it claims to do and does that mostly- simple job very well.

I did want to dedicate a portion of this to comment on the developer. I think he has a really positive attitude and view on things, and that was more appealing to me than anything else. Rather than cripple the app or put irritating banner ads in it, he simply chose to add a tab on the bottom bar called "extras" which is dedicated to explaining what a $1.99 in-app purchase gets you, and explains each of those extra features. It's less of a typical "pay me money to stop annoying things from happening or to gain full functionality and features"— to me, the message was "here's my app, use it, enjoy it… and I hope that if you feel it's good, you'll choose to drop $1.99 to me, and in return for supporting me, I'll add these unnecessary, non-critical extras that simply expand on what's already largely in place here". Things like even more sounds for alarms, a periodic day alert, etc. None are really things you'd die without, but they're nice bonuses.

So, since I am sold on the dev's attitude, I can say without a doubt, give this a try. It's free, fully functional, and it seems to fill its defined role well. As the dev says, if it's not for you, then worse case, delete it and you haven't wasted a cent, nor have you wasted your time on a 25% functional program with intrusive ads all about. So while I don't have the necessity for the things this app does, maybe you do, and it could be a very useful tool.

@Brad "AppAddict, Ph.D.":
It's thorough reviews like this which say to me -- yes, you deserve your 'PHD' title. :)

As for how an app like this can be a hidden gem -- how DOES that work?!! Is it just the horrible design of the Appstore, hiding the 5 star apps beneath thousands of junky apps?

Any app lists that really are 'must have apps' on AppZapp?

@rekzkarz:

Absolutely. I plan to make one very soon and I'll let you know when it's done. Over the years I've tried thousands of apps out, and I feel pretty confident I can name the best ones (at least to me) in each category.

I'll contact you once I complete the collection(s). If you don't hear from me by a couple of weeks, feel free to send me a private message and remind me. I do forget sometimes! ;)

While dr. Brad you have been busy earning your doctorate, I have been using myself into a rehab facility. I'm Kristina and I am an app addict. My friends and family use me as their go to for app advice and are impressed by my 2100ish apps on my MacBook, something tells me though after reading your very detailed app review you know far meow about apps than me. I would absolutely love a Lindt of your must have apps.
