Camera app for long exposure and night photography
** An Average Camera with enhanced low light performance **
** A Night Camera with less noise in photo due to averaging **

** Featured in the Popular Photography Magazine (Pop Photo), August 2013 issue **

(iOS 7 tested)

AvgNite Cam is a long exposure and night camera. It allows you to take multiple photos in burst mode and then average the captured photos to create long exposure effects and/or substantially reduce noise in your photos. Moreover, AvgNite Cam makes your iPhone camera to "see more clearly" in the dark by pulling in more light and taking the advantage of iPhone's low light boost mode. When the app is set to take only 1 photo at a time, it becomes a regular camera with enhanced low light performance for quick night shooting.

* Features:

1. Full photo native resolution output

2. Allows you to take 1 to unlimited number of pictures and perform averaging. And you can stop shooting at any time.

3. Fast photo shooting, averaging, and saving speed.

4. When the app is set to take only 1 photo at a time, it becomes a regular camera with enhanced low light performance for quick night shooting. (you can enable "auto save" function for even quicker speed)

5. For night shooting, the app can slower the shutter speed up to 1 second to pull in more light for each shot according to the ambient light condition. Users can select the maximum shutter speed (referred to as "Low Light Sensitivity" in the app) to adjust the exposure under low light.

6. Supports Low Light Boost Mode (iPhone 5 only)

7. Allows you to adjust exposure and contrast after the picture is taken with real-time preview.

8. Volume shutter: you can use the volume key on your iPhone's earphone remote to control the shutter if you use tripod to take pictures.

9. Auto Save, Self-Timer, Flash light, and front camera support

9. Focus/Exposure Lock, Focus/Exposure adjust, Screen shutter, Grid mode, Geotag and more.

* Notices (IMPORTANT !) and Tips

1. Specifically for iPhone 4S users: Since iPhone 4S has only half memory capacity of iPhone 5 and above, some 4S users may experience unstable problem (crash) or being unable to save photos. This is caused by insufficient memory space due to the unreleased memory usage by other apps, which may leave little memory space for AvgNite Cam. To resolve this problem, you can restart the phone to clean up the memory, and the problem should be solved. For iPhone 4S users, we recommend you to first take several test shots, so that everything is fine. For iPhone 5, 5S and 5C, this problem generally doesn't exist due to high memory capacity.

2. Adjust the "Low Light Sensitivity" option for different low light sensitivity when being used as a night camera

3. For quick snap under low light, you can set the shot number to 1, and enable the "auto save" function. The app will then behave like the iPhone default camera with enhanced low light performance.

4. Use a tripod, stand your iPhone on a smooth surface, or lean the phone on something solid to get better sharpness when taking more than one shot

5. For one-shot night shooting (i.e. if the shot number is set to 1), you may hold the iPhone still for a while to allow the built-in Low Light Boost mode to reduce noise before pressing camera button (iPhone 5 only, and it may only work for high noise level).

I have this app as well as AverageCamera Pro (will shorten it to AvgCam). Both I like and both I use.
Saves at full device resolution.
While AvgCam has settings up to 128 images this one has a highest setting at 1024 and even has a bulb function where it runs until you stop it. Both apps have light sensitivity setting and once a picture is complete you can adjust brightness and contrast via sliders (shutter button changes to setting button).
Most will ask if I have used the longer settings and I have. I find either app is good for doing things like blurred water. This one having a higher number of images means water looks silkier then with AvgCam or there is more obvious movement in clouds for example. This app also takes less time between images then AvgCam so overall time is better/faster.
Taking 32 images with this app takes about 10 seconds and roughly twice that long in AvgCam. Quality of pics on both using the same settings is about identical, with 32 images I can't find any noise but it also depends on what your taking too, ie dusk I use more images but both are so far ahead of most other apps that I think they are worth it.
This app does need another update, I find with iOS 8 that while it all works it can be a bit sluggish. I normally clean memory beforehand which does seem to help.
AvgCam has one thing that I would like to see adopted by other apps though, it has a function where you can create a mask for what is called banding noise. Every manufatured sensor is going to be slightly different and I first noticed that noise when using some night apps. Shows as thin streaks or bands especially in low light. While this app doesn't appear to have any I would still like to see it.
I did contact the developer and he was going to see about integrating a banding noise mask but last update was minor and not in it yet.
I seldom leave anything to chance which is why I have and use both.
Ask any ? If I have not covered

Super App! ***** für gute, scharfe Bilder sollte man das Phone fixieren!

Schön wäre noch, wenn man das Fotoergebnis direkt und ohne Umwege betrachten könnte.

Regardless of Prof Snape's valid point, here is my review:

AvgNite Cam is far from average. I used three "professional" night camera apps the other night. The items I was photographing were two metres away, surrounded by near complete darkness (starry night with no moon, the roof of the highest skyscraper, i.e. no other lights were visible due to a 1.2 metre high security wall).

After getting horrible results while using the native cam and the three so-called night cameras, I tried this one (thank you AppZapp for always giving my phone so many choices).

This one gave me results easily comparable to a decent DSLR with an attached flash. (The second best app was was the Night Modes one, maybe 30-40% worse than AvgNite Cam though; the worst was the native cam by Apple, a nightmare of foggy light rays and deep darkness – hundreds of times worse than other apps, with or without the DHR option.)

All cameras used my iPhone 4S's LED light only (usually completely differently though – short vs long vs bursts vs continuous use).

For the views beyond darkness (other skyscrapers from above the wall, city lights towards the horizon, etc.), all cameras offered similarly good pictures – as long as the camera's flash was turned off and it was completely steady. If you put a gun to my head, I would say Apple's DHR option was better than others.

5/5. TSC 34/10 (likes/dislikes).

Не впечатлило. Такого качества как на скриншотах добиться не получилось. К тому же, много шумов.

Удивительно, как вытягивает изображение из тени!
